MAUNDY THURSDAY: THE HIGH PRIESTLY PRAYER

APRIL 9, 2020

READ: JOHN 17:1-18:27

“The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one.” - John 17:22

I love listening to people pray. I have this theory that people talk differently to God than they talk with others. We are more honest and transparent. There’s nothing we can hide from God. I can tell a lot about a person by how they pray.

I especially like to hear people pray for me. I know that many of you pray for me. I can feel it. But hearing someone that loves me pray for me is powerful. It’s intimate. I feel connected to them.

Knowing that Jesus intercedes for us is encouraging, but seeing what Jesus prays for on our behalf is a greater comfort. Jesus asks God for our safety, harmony, sanctity, clarity, and eternal security. Every petition comes from His heart, bathed in His love. Jesus wants us to experience the same glory and union He has with the Father.

Do you really want to be astonished? Have someone read this prayer out loud and just listen with your head bowed and eyes closed. Imagine you are in a corporate prayer meeting and Jesus, Himself, is praying for you. Notice how He talks to His Father. Reflect on what Jesus prays for you. Embrace the purpose He has for your life.
