The April Bible Book-a-Month is Paul's letter to the Colossians taught by E. Schuyler English and Chester McCalley. Paul wrote this letter while in prison. He learned that a dangerous heresy was gaining headway among these Christians and he was determined to do something about it. He sent the letter by the hands of Tychicus and Onesimus who also brought letters to the Ephesians and to Philemon. Two things troubled the people at Colossae. One was a false philosophy in which they were worshipping intermediary beings between God and man. The second involved the observance of Jewish requirements, which led to an asceticism which was legalistic. Paul wrote to tell them about the Godhead and the all-sufficiency of the Lord Jesus.

The March Bible Book-a-Month was Joel taught by Frank Gaebelein and Chester McCalley. Joel was a prophet of Judah. He was one of the earliest of the writing prophets. The burden of his prophecy is threefold. First he speaks of the plague of the locusts. Then he deals with the day of the Lord. And lastly he speaks of the Gospel age and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.A bonus study, "The Resurrection of Jesus Christ by Harold Lindsell" by Charles Woodbridge is also in the package.

In February we offered Hosea, taught by Frank Gaebelein and Chester McCalley. Hosea lived during the last forty years of the Northern Kingdom of Israel. He was God’s prophet to Israel (not to Judah). He speaks of Israel as an adulterous wife of Jehovah and promises that this apostate people shall be cut of. He does sound, however, a note of hope in that this people will someday be restored after they have been purified. A bonus study, "The Forgiveness of Sins" by Charles Woodbridge is also in the package.

In January the Book of Philipians was studied, taught by E. Schuyler English and Chester McCalley. In December, the Bible Book-A-Month Daniel, taught by Carl Armerding and Chester McCalley. Daniel is the "backbone" of of all biblical prophecy as well as the most comprehensive prophecy of scripture in that it covers a large span of time. Daniels simple life of devotedness to God and His commandments is an example of what a man of God can do under the most difficult circumstances. Mail Call - A Letter from a Military Chaplain

Dear John DeBrine:

I am the Battalion Chaplain deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 2. You sent a CD of a radio broadcast to and I just wanted to say thank you. Thank you so much for caring for a soldier that is deployed. It was very encouraging and I got it just when I needed to be uplifted the most. It is draining being the only person in the Battalion that does what I do, minister to soldiers. But I have fellow Chaplains that help me out when I’m feeling down too. So thank you again for sending that CD.

I just wanted to say that how proud I am to be an American where I know that there are caring people like you who are still thinking about our deployed sons and daughters in harms way. It is because of supportive people like you that we are proud to “hold the line” and protect the freedoms that we all enjoy.

Thank you again for all that you are doing to support the war effort. Please continue to pray for the soldiers of my Battalion, and all the other Coalition Forces deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 2.
