November 2003
Dear Friend of Songtime,
Steve was a self-proclaimed liberal. A champion of misguided ideals. And as a theology student at a free-thinking graduate school, he planned to one day share those ideals with the masses.
Fortunately, that day never came. And I’m writing you today on behalf of the man who was a big reason why -- Songtime Founder Dr. John DeBrine.
Shortly after the two met, John took young Steve under his wing. He encouraged him, he challenged him, he loved him. He showed him the difference between a half-truth and the absolute truth, and the results have been nothing short of remarkable.
You see, the Steve I’m talking about is Steve Brown, whose Christian radio program, "Key Life," is heard everyday on stations around the world.
How important was Songtime to Steve’s life and ministry? I’ll let him tell you.
"There would be no Key Life Network if not for Songtime and Dr. John DeBrine," says Steve. "John has been my mentor, my friend and my teacher for a whole lot of years."
As a trusted friend of Songtime, you probably know all about Dr. DeBrine. After all, you’re a big reason why he has been broadcasting the Gospel for over 44 years.
But here’s something you may not know. Songtime is currently $375,000.00 short of meeting its 2003 annual budget. For this reason, John’s time has been divided this year between administration and evangelism -- between what he does well and what he does best.
As Chairman of the Board of Directors for Songtime Ministries, my goal is to lift the fundraising burden from Dr. DeBrine, so that he can spend less time building tents, and more time building relationships.
But I can’t do it without your help. With that in mind, here’s what I’m asking you to do.
First, would you pray for the Songtime broadcast, its staff and its listeners? This is a particularly trying time for Dr. DeBrine and the entire Songtime ministry, and as you know, prayer is our most valuable commodity.
Second, as we approach the end of 2003, would you prayerfully consider making a special one-time gift, or increasing your monthly pledge? Despite the gravity of our present situation, we are not willing to curtail any of our ministry activities. With your continued help, we won’t have to.
When you send your gift, be sure to ask for your preview copy of "Where To Go For a Miracle," the soon-to-be-released evangelistic CD that contains the most interesting true story Dr. DeBrine has ever heard.
You won’t find this CD anywhere else. It is being offered first to good friends like you, and it’s available for a donation of any amount.
I want you to know that our current situation, while grave, is far from hopeless. It is not a cause for alarm, but a call for action.
When God opens a door, we have a choice. We can back away from it and get nervous. Or we can walk through it and get busy. If you’re holding this letter in your hands, it’s because I believe you’re a member of the second group.
May God bless you as you prayerfully consider how you will respond to this open door.
Sincerely,
E. Nelson Martin, Chairman
