Songtime USA begins 40 years on the air in New England (45 on WDAC in Lancaster!) as we welcome the year 2004. We will have many celebrations including moving the Annual Bible Conference (September 10 through 12) to the Boston area. Since we have a special rate, call now for information to enjoy staying at a greater Boston hotel without paying the usual high prices. We are even serving breakfast and dinner this year!
However, the big issue as we begin 2004 is learning from the past. In 1995 we sent one of our staff on what some called an “Impossible Journey”. It was over a 5,000 mile evangelistic journey to Bosnia to personally deliver thousands of evangelism cassettes to the U.S. military base in Tuzla. “Impossible” said the Pentagon. In fact they said, “You can’t go and even if you did you would need 5 days military training , special passages, clearances, personal backing, and you would need to comply with complex rules that would nearly be impossible to meet – we don’t recommend you go. We don’t want American’s over there.”
Ask for the entire story featured in the National Religious Broadcasters December 1996 Magazine. It will bless you! Dave Donnelly, our staff member then did get there. He was welcomed on the base, had the opportunity of radio interviews, plus the wonderful hospitality of the U.S. Military. For me one of the highlights was when our staff member interviewed a soldier who had used one of Songtime’s earlier tapes to lead a non-believer to Christ during the first Gulf war.
In my 45 years of Broadcasting I have never witnessed anything of this magnitude. How do I explain it? I can’t since it is only explainable by God! There were dozens and dozens of obstacles but Luke 1:37 states, “For with God nothing shall be impossible.” As we relive that unforgettable venture planned and executed totally by God, may that set the pace for Songtime USA in 2004! There is a convergence of prophetic signs to remind us to “Look up and lift up your heads for your redemption draweth nigh”
- Dr. John DeBrine
P.S.: Dr. Howard Hendricks once asked this: “What is there in your life that you cannot explain on any other basis than the supernatural? What is there in your life that is proof positive of the reality of God?” For me personally, it is that I graduated from Bob Jones Academy (the High School) in 1943. I started preaching in 1943. My first sermon was at a little church in the Tennessee Mountains. 61 years later, God is still allowing me to continue to preach His Gospel!
Please pray for and help Songtime USA get the Gospel to people and service personnel all over the world! The days after the war will be as opportune as the days during the war. When you go to church, do you hear the Gospel? If so you are aware of the power of God. That is what Romans 1:16 is all about! Thanks for all your help! - JDB
